Nintendo sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide of its Switch 2 gaming device in four days, the Japanese company said, showing that the uncertain trade environment and hit console's high prices aren’t hobbling sales.

“This is the highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware within the first four days,” Nintendo said. The new gaming device was released June 5.

Pre-orders began in late April for the console, and Nintendo said early last month that it expects to sell 15 million systems in the coming year, assuming U.S. tariffs remain unchanged from April 10 levels. Gamers said retailers' websites struggled to keep up with traffic when pre-orders began and merchants quickly sold out of the second-generation Switch console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 sells for $449.99 in the U.S., while a bundle that includes the game “Mario Kart World” goes for $499.99.

Nintendo's shares closed 3.6% lower in Tokyo on Wednesday.
