How Much Are Corteva, Inc. (NYSE:CTVA) Insiders Spending On Buying Shares?

In This Article:

We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So before you buy or sell Corteva, Inc. (NYSE:CTVA), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.

What Is Insider Buying?

It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.

We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

Corteva Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Senior VP & Chief Technology Officer Samuel Eathington for US$150k worth of shares, at about US$45.57 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$44.16 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

Corteva insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. Their average price was about US$33.98. To my mind it is good that insiders have invested their own money in the company. However, we do note that they were buying at significantly lower prices than today's share price.
