May 7—Considered a trailblazer by some, Meg Moss, has now moved on to other business and was honored this week by Sanford City Council.
At the end of April she resigned as executive director of Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce. Moss could always be seen with a bright smile on her face welcoming people to new businesses in the area. On many occasions Councilman Samuel Gaskins was a regular attendee at events like this as well and was able to see Moss in action.
"She was a wonderful lady," he said of Moss. "She did an outstanding job with the chamber. She was hard working and dedicated."
Gaskins said she always kept the membership high for time she had the position.
At last Tuesday's City Council meeting her hard work was officially recognized by the council with a standing ovation and a plaque.
Sanford Mayor Chet Mann said during her time working for the Chamber she "has stepped up during difficult times and has led us during periods of transition and I wanted to make sure that we recognized you properly."
Moss was humbled by Mann's words about her.
"I will always be a part of the community" she said. "I'm very humbled."
She may be humbled even more with the new position she will be transitioning into, which will be covering Lee, Harnett and Johnston counties for the Guardian ad Litem program. She will be recruiting and supervising volunteers into organizing to be the voice of children in the court system in these areas.
Though her office will be in Lillington, Moss said people will see her in Lee County.
She said she Sanford is her home and she will remain active in Sanford Rotary, the Temple Theatre Guild and continue to volunteer to sell concessions where her children play baseball.
