Mosaic, a global specialty insurer, has appointed Toby Smith as the CEO of its Americas business, effective 23 July.

Smith joins the leadership team with a mandate to drive market engagement and profitable growth throughout the US, Canada and the wider Americas region.

He has worked in the specialty insurance space for more than 20 years, latterly as Liberty Mutual's chief underwriting officer for North America specialty lines.

His career, which began at AIG, includes contributions to the specialty insurance sector, particularly in launching and leading Ironshore's environmental business.

His roles at Ironshore included president of environmental and president of E&S casualty.

At Mosaic, Smith's responsibilities will include directing new product development and managing the company's largest divisions – transactional liability, cyber and environmental liability.

This appointment comes at a time when Mosaic is expanding its footprint in the US market, as evidenced by the recent relocation of its New York City office to the One Grand Central Place.
