Moritt Hock Absorbs Small Manhattan Firm

Moritt Hock & Hamroff, a 64-attorney firm in Long Island and Manhattan, has absorbed the three-attorney practice of Morgenthau & Greenes.

The midsize firm's new hires included Joel Morgenthau, joining as a partner; Steven Greenes, joining as of counsel; and Vincent Balardi, joining as counsel.

Morgenthau & Greenes, founded in 1985 and counting as many as 12 attorneys at one point, focused on business transactions, branding and licensing, private equity and real estate law. With the attorneys' move to Moritt Hock, the small firm will dissolve, Morgenthau said.

Morgenthau said their move was the result of a number of factors, including the end of an office lease in Manhattan, Greenes' decision to semi-retire and Morgenthau's desire to continue practicing and grow his business.

"It [Moritt Hock] is a larger platform that allowed us to continue what we do," while the attorneys no longer need to refer out certain work that their small firm didn't handle, such as litigation matters, Morgenthau said.

Moritt Hock managing partner Marc Hamroff, who had learned about the three-attorney practice through referrals, said his firm has a continued need for corporate and real estate attorneys. In September, Moritt Hock doubled its Manhattan office space when it moved to 1407 Broadway in Midtown.
