TICONDEROGA — Ticonderoga and Moriah Chambers of Commerce are ushering in the major local shopping day of the year with Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30.
Small Business Saturday falls between the Black Friday and Cyber Monday national holiday shopping days and stores in both communities will offer discounts and deals all day long.
“Small Business Saturday is the day we all shop small,” Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Matthew Courtright said in a news release. “Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country.”
‘THE BEST YET’
Created by American Express in 2010, the day is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
“The chamber and area businesses have participated in this event since the inaugural year,” Courtright said. “We are hoping to make this year’s event and the entire Ticonderoga Area North Country Christmas celebration the best yet. Small Business Saturday is the perfect opportunity for community members to support Ticonderoga area businesses as well as give small businesses an opportunity to take part in a nationwide effort.”
Both chamber offices will be open for Small Business Saturday to distribute flyers with local deals and offer snacks and premiums like tote bags. Deals will also be listed on chamber social media pages, and on www.ticonderogany.com for the Ticonderoga chamber.
“We’re gearing up for Small Business Saturday,” Moriah Chamber of Commerce President Ric Lewis said. “Many of our members will offer specials and discounts that day. That’s always a big day in Port Henry and Moriah.”
Ticonderoga also has a passport promotion. Shoppers can get a Small Business Saturday Passport from participating businesses or the chamber. Complete passport at five participating businesses and obtain stamps or signatures, then return the passport to the chamber office by Dec. 13 for a chance to win a variety of prizes. Write a name and phone number on the passport.
“Small businesses are the heartbeat of our communities,” Courtright said.
“They are the corner stores that create jobs, the retail shops and restaurants that help build our economy, and the mom-and-pop shops whose very presence makes a neighborhood, your neighborhood. The Shop Small Movement inspires people to shop with and support these small businesses, as well as give back to the places that have given their communities so much.”
