Monadelphous Group, an Australian engineering company, has secured new construction and maintenance contracts with UK-based mining company Rio Tinto, valued at approximately A$150m ($94m).
The company has been awarded a multidisciplinary construction contract for a replacement ammonium nitrate storage facility at Rio Tinto's Brockman 4 mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
This project is part of the sustaining capital projects panel agreement and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026 (H1 2026).
In addition to the construction contract, Monadelphous has also secured a three-year panel contract to provide water management works across Rio Tinto’s mining operations in the Pilbara region.
Rio Tinto's integrated network in Pilbara includes 17 iron ore mines. These assets include the Brockman 2 and 4, Channar, Eastern Range, Gudai-Darri, Hope Downs 1 and 4, Marandoo, Mesa A, Mesa J, Nammuldi, Paraburdoo, Silvergrass, Tom Price, West Angelas, Western Turner Syncline and Yandicoogina mines.
In October last year, Monadelphous received contracts and extensions worth around A$160m for fixed plant maintenance services and sustaining capital projects at Rio Tinto's iron ore operations in Pilbara.
Monadelphous, with more than five decades of experience, specialises in construction, maintenance and industrial services in the resources, energy and infrastructure sectors, the company says.
Headquartered in Perth, the company has a broad operational footprint including projects and facilities in Australia and parts of Asia.
Rio Tinto is reportedly planning to create a stand-alone lithium division following its substantial $6.7bn (£5.39bn) acquisition of Arcadium Lithium. The deal, announced last October, is due to be finalised by July 2025.
