Mitsubishi to launch Nissan Leaf-based BEV in North America

In This Article:

Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced this week announced plans to launch a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) model, based on the next generation Nissan Leaf, in North America next year.

Mitsubishi confirmed that the new model will be part of its new product strategy for the North American region through to 2030, which it announced last year. The new Leaf-based model is scheduled to go on sale in the US in second half of 2026.

Mitsubishi confirmed it is exploring additional opportunities to expand its collaboration with its Alliance partners, which include Nissan and Renault, to strengthen its electrified vehicle lineup in key regional markets.

This week the company also announced it had signed a preliminary agreement to source a battery electric vehicle (BEV) model from Foxtron Vehicle Technologies Company, the automotive subsidiary of Taiwanese electronics giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Company Ltd. Under the agreement, Foxtron will develop a new BEV model based on its MIH open platform, which Mitsubishi will sell locally and export to markets in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand, from the second half of 2026.
