Mitchell's Scott Supply to be sold to Titan Machinery
Dec. 20—MITCHELL — Scott Supply, a longtime agriculture sales and service company in Mitchell, has been sold to Titan Machinery, effective Jan. 10.
"Scott Supply and Titan Machinery leadership have been industry friends for multiple decades and have aligned values and mutual respect," a letter from Chris Scott to the company's customers says.
The letter says
Scott Supply "survived and thrived" for 108 years
due to its customers and employees. The company is known for its Case IH and New Holland farm equipment sales. It was founded in 1915 in Mount Vernon and third-generation owner Bob Scott encouraged Scott Supply's movement to Mitchell in 1962.
Titan Machinery, headquartered in West Fargo, North Dakota, was founded in 1980 "on the principle of consolidating dealership resources to leverage purchasing power, equipment and parts inventories, training, and other industry know-hows to provide world-class equipment support," the company website says. Titan has more than 100 dealer locations in 12 states and six countries. It has 12 South Dakota locations listed on its website.
Chris Scott, who will remain as general manager, said in the letter that the best interests of the company's customers and employees "were most important" with the decision.
"Joining Titan allows you all the benefits that come with Titan's expansive network of stores, especially in the areas of parts availability, service support, technical expertise, and new and used product availability, bolstering the support Scott Supply already offers," he wrote.
Scott Supply was started by Lewis Scott in 1915. That same year, Lewis' son, Wally Scott was born and he became an active partner in the business in 1936. Wally's two sons — Bob and John — later joined the business as owners, and Bob's son, Chris, has been on board as an owner since 1994.
