NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - August 02, 2016) - Don't be fooled by its size -- the Microsoft Xbox One S is robust despite its small, compact stature. Between its added storage, light and attractive design, 4K video support, and built-in power supply, the Xbox One S represents a strong upgrade to the Xbox One. The 2TB version is currently available at B&H Photo Video for $399, along with an upright stand. Other storage options will be available soon.

The first thing that stands out about Microsoft's new console is its size. The Xbox One S is 40% smaller than its predecessor, and also forgoes the bulky power brick in favor of a built-in power supply. These improvements make it significantly lighter, on par with the slim enclosure of the PlayStation 4. Despite the smaller size, the Xbox One S is available with 2TB of storage, which is double the capacity of the current top-end Xbox and PS4.

Another major difference between the Xbox One S and the Xbox One is 4K compatibility. The One S is capable of streaming 4K video from services like Netflix and Amazon Video. It also has a built-in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. This is great news for Blu-ray fans, as the Xbox One S starting price of $299 is cheaper than most dedicated Ultra HD players currently available. The console can also upscale games to 4K, meaning that it can display games at a higher resolution than the Xbox One. The Xbox One S will also support videos that use High Dynamic Range (HDR). HDR is a feature of next-generation televisions which displays a wider range of colors to create extremely detailed images.

In order to achieve its smaller size, the Xbox One S no longer features a dedicated Kinect port. In order to use the Kinect, you will need an adapter. What took the Kinect port's place is an integrated IR (infrared) blaster, which allows users to configure the Xbox One S to control other devices like TVs, A/V receivers, and cable or satellite receivers.

Finally, the Microsoft Xbox One S comes with a redesigned controller. The controller features a textured grip, exchangeable color covers, extended range, and Bluetooth capability, so gamers can use it wirelessly with a PC.
