Malaysia’s Bandar Dato’ Onn Specialist Hospital to undergo renovation

In This Article:

Malaysia's private healthcare services provider KPJ Healthcare has announced plans to undertake an extensive renovation of its indirect wholly owned subsidiary Bandar Dato’ Onn Specialist Hospital.

The Onn Specialist Hospital, which began operations in February 2019, is KPJ Healthcare's 26th hospital and is located in Taman Bukit Mutiara, Johor Bahru, in the Malaysian state of Johor.

The announcement was shared by KPJ Healthcare in a stock exchange filing dated 10 June.

As per the filing, the project, which is valued at approximately RM18.3m ($3.87m), involves the renovation of two floors of the hospital.

KPJ Bandar Dato’ Onn Specialist Hospital’s new ward level 8 will be expanded to include 30 beds in a 22,900ft² space and the new ward level 9 will also mirror this capacity and size.

With the addition of a total of 60 beds across approximately 45,800ft² space, this expansion will increase the hospital's total capacity to 150 beds, up from the current 90.

Apart from expanding the hospital's capacity, the project also aims at enhancing its ability to meet growing patient demands and targeting health tourism.

Bandar Dato’ Onn Specialist Hospital has issued a letter of acceptance to engage construction company Tg. Langsat Development (TLDSB), which is a 100% owned subsidiary of TPM Technopark, for the project. TPM Technopark is an indirect subsidiary of Johor.

Tg. Langsat Development was selected for offering the most cost-effective proposal that aligns with industry standards and meets the tender requirements, KPJ Healthcare noted.

The renovation work is expected to be completed within five months, by 10 November 2024.

KPJ Healthcare said that the completion of this renovation is contingent upon TLDSB's ability to meet the agreed timeline.

The latest expansion work is being undertaken as part of KPJ Healthcare's strategy to enhance the customer experience by increasing the number of single bedded wards and to capitalise on health tourism opportunities.

The project also aims to extend the hospital's reach into new geographical markets.
