London Borough of Camden Selects Accellion to Support Seamless Mobile Collaboration

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 20, 2013) - Accellion, Inc., the pioneer in providing enterprise-class, secure mobile file sharing solutions, today announced that the London Borough of Camden, one of 32 boroughs in London, England, has deployed Accellion to make collaboration and BYOD a secure and compliant reality for its employees.

As part of the Borough's strategic IT plan, it began looking at a number of initiatives to save money, improve digital security and modernize the core technologies used by employees. The creation of a BYOD strategy was seen as an effective way to meet this aim through improved productivity, reduced IT equipment costs and the fostering of happier employees by giving them the freedom to use devices of their own choosing for business-related activities.

Another key criteria for the Borough's solution included internal controls around where and how its corporate data was stored, accessed and transferred. The system needed strict regulatory compliance to mandate different levels of security and access dependent on the type of data, such as personal identification. The solution also needed seamless compatibility with SharePoint, supported through Accellion's kitepoint™ feature, to provide employees with an easy-to-use interface that has minimal management overhead. Armed with its list of requirements, the Borough turned to a trusted third party -- mobility and wireless experts at Qolcom -- for platform recommendations. With Qolcom's support, the Borough determined that Accellion was the only vendor to meet all its requirements, and began deploying the solution.

"Accellion acts as the single platform for users to access, review and collaborate on content from mobile devices of their choosing, as well as meeting all of our security and compliance requirements," said Ian Lawrence, IT Manager with the London Borough of Camden. "Now we have a solution that's integrated with our device management tools and SharePoint, allowing us to securely mobilize our most important content and make BYOD a reality."

From a security standpoint, the Borough benefits from real-time visibility into all mobile file sharing activities, maintaining a comprehensive audit trail if needed for regulatory reporting. All accounts are integrated with LDAP, giving its IT staff full control over user accounts. Additionally, each piece of data that is shared or edited is encrypted both in transit and at rest. Finally, Accellion provided a private-cloud, on-premise deployment option, a government regulation that is enforced so no data is stored on public servers.
