Lima announces new grants for local artists

Dec. 6—LIMA — The city of Lima has announced new grants to support local artists. The "Lima Presents" and the "Lima Creates" are now open for community members interested in expanding their creativity. Workforce and Small Business Development Coordinator Amber Martin shared the new program at the mayor's press conference Wednesday morning.

"The 'Lima Creates' is for individual artists across all genres including film, music, literary arts and media," Martin said. "We want everyone to apply. We are looking for artists who have two years of experience. The 'Lima Presents' is for organizations that may be nonprofits, cultural arts centers or venues for productions. They can come in and apply for this funding to either create a new activity presentation that is open to the public or to expand an existing program."

The individual grant has awards from $500 to $1,000. The grant for organizations has awards from $250 to $750.

"As we support other economic development efforts, we cannot neglect the importance of our local creative economy," Mayor Sharetta Smith said in a recent press release. "Supporting local artists and entrepreneurs not only adds to the vibrancy of our community but ultimately helps our city attract and engage talent."

The applications are now open for community members. For more information visit www.cityhall.lima.oh.us or reach Amber Martin at 419-223-7281.
