'Life In Pieces' First CBS Rookie To Get Renewal

Earlier in the spring, CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS) head Les Moonves made a statement that he expected to pick up a number of his network's freshman series. So you can imagine the surprise to investors when the initial renewals list was devoid of any rookies.

All of CBS' 2016-2017 pick-ups have been veteran series, but that changed Wednesday with "Life In Pieces" getting the go-ahead for a sophomore run. The move isn't exactly shocking as "Pieces" was one of the best-received series from CBS' 2015-2016 freshman class. "Pieces" also had the benefit of comedy juggernaut "The Big Bang Theory" as a lead-in.

Analysts though weren't entirely sold on the renewal being a lock as "Pieces" is also a co-production with Fox. With CBS (and the other networks for that matter) looking to mainly go with shows from its own studios, some questioned if the ensemble comedy would be one-and-done.

CBS is expected to make decisions on fellow rookies "Limitless," "Supergirl" and "Code Black" in the coming days.
