Levi Strauss Foundation (LSF) continues to be a force for good.

In 2024, the corporate philanthropic arm of Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co.) awarded $8.9 million to organizations that advocate for democracy, immigrant rights, reproductive justice, and apparel worker rights and well-being.

The foundation’s impact is explained in a new 2024 Year in Review report, which outlines its grantmaking strategy to provide long-term support to trusted organizations.

“LSF’s grantmaking begins with a deep trust in the organizations championing justice, recognizing that social progress is complex, long-game work that is far from straightforward. Even the most successful movements have faced significant setbacks that demanded resilience, innovation, and renewed resolve to be overcome. That’s why LSF remains committed to investing in the long-term success of our partners with multi-year, general operating support. Centering this practice ensures our partners have access to flexible capital that any organization needs to truly thrive,” LSF stated in the report.

The foundation provided 74 grants to 67 organizations last year.

Organizations that protect democracy received $2.64 million, with most providing multi-year support. The grant supports LSF’s goals to protect voting rights, strengthen civic engagement in underrepresented and disenfranchised populations, and to ensure open and inclusive media and information ecosystems.

LSF awarded $2.03 million in grants that assist immigration reform. This includes advocacy for pathways to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and humane and transparent immigration policies and enforcement practices.

Reproductive rights continued to be a priority for the foundation in 2024. LSF awarded $2.06 million through 14 grants to organizations advancing policy changes that protect and expands access to reproductive health services. One of LS&Co.’s goals is to “strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of organizations providing financial, logistical, and emotional support for individuals seeking care.”

Organizations that focus on advancing fair and just protections for workers in LS&Co. sourcing countries received $1.93 million. Enabling factories to develop and implement policies, systems and programs that build workplace cultures of trust, respect, and fairness is a key priority, according to the report.

Each year LS&Co. invests a portion of its profits into the work of the foundation to advance the rights and well-being of underserved people in places where Levi Strauss & Co. has a business presence. The foundation has provided $387 million in grants since it launched in 1952.
