SHEBOYGAN – Construction has started for a new apartment building near Take 5 Oil Change on Indiana Avenue.

View 14 Apartments, headed by VUE 14, LLC, will bring 48 rental units to the area: eight designated as market rate and 40 designated as affordable.

Fifteen units will be designated for veterans and individuals and families needing supportive services, like financial literacy and employment.

The building will have one-, two- and three-bedroom units and a capacity of 130 residents.

Amenities will include a community room, computer area, fitness center, storage units and Family Service Association of Sheboygan, Inc. services.

The $15.5 million project will replace the Citgo station that formerly occupied the lot at 1003 S. 14th St.

Construction could take a little more than a year and could be done by early summer 2024.

The complex aims to address ongoing needs for affordable housing in the Sheboygan area and serve “individuals from all walks of life,” a conditional-use permit application for the project states.

The City of Sheboygan worked with Commonwealth Development Corporation for the last three years to introduce new affordable housing to the community, specifically in areas where more than half of households have incomes below 60% of the Area Median Income or areas with a 25% or higher poverty rate.

Considerations also include proximity to public transportation and essentials like grocery stores, parks and medical providers.
