King & Spalding has hired longtime Clifford Chance banking partner Andrew Brereton in Singapore.

Brereton, who is expected to join the U.S. firm in January, specializes in acquisition finance, structured lending, syndicated loans, and reserve based financing. Last year, he advised Bank of China Group Investment Ltd. as part of a consortium to take private Singapore-based warehouse operator Global Logistic Properties Ltd. for $11.6 billion.

In 2016, he represented an investor consortium, including Star Energy Group Holdings Pte. Ltd., on the financing arrangements for its acquisition of energy giant Chevron Corp.'s geothermal operations in Indonesia and the Philippines.

Brereton is a Clifford Chance lifer, having joined the Magic Circle firm in 1997. He made partner in 2008. At King & Spalding, Brereton reunites with corporate partner Lee Taylor, who made the move from Clifford Chance in January. Taylor worked alongside Brereton on a number of transactions, including the GLP buyout deal.

"We thank Andrew for his contributions to the firm and wish him the best for the years ahead," a spokesperson for Clifford Chance said.

Earlier this year, Singapore managing partner Kelly Malone said King & Spalding planned to expand its Southeast Asian practice beyond arbitration and energy. He said the firm would be seeking to expand into M&A, specialty financing, alternative capital and debt funds, private equity and investigations practices.

King & Spalding declined to comment on Brereton's hire. The Atlanta-based Am Law 100 firm has 34 lawyers in Singapore, including 12 partners. The Singapore office, its first in Asia, opened in 2010.
