JP Morgan tops M&A financial adviser rankings in power sector for Q1 2025

In This Article:

JP Morgan emerged as the top financial adviser for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the power sector, both in terms of deal value and volume, for the first quarter of 2025 (Q1 2025), according to a recent league table report by GlobalData, a prominent data and analytics company.

GlobalData's Deals Database indicated that JP Morgan secured its leading position by advising on four deals, which collectively amounted to $19.5bn.

GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose said: “JP Morgan registered an year-on-year growth in the total volume and value during Q1 2025, but the growth is more prominent in terms of value, primarily driven by its involvement in $16.4bn deal for the acquisition of Calpine by Constellation Energy. It went ahead from occupying the 14th position by value in Q1 2024 to the top position by this metric in Q1 2025. Interestingly, it occupied the 14th position by deal volume in Q1 2024 as well.”

Goldman Sachs closely followed JP Morgan, securing the second spot in the value rankings with deals totalling $19.4bn. This was followed by Morgan Stanley, which advised on transactions worth $19.2bn. Barclays and Lazard were also key players, each advising on deals amounting to $16.4bn.

In terms of deal volume, Goldman Sachs secured the second spot with four deals. Moelis & Company and Ernst & Young followed with four deals each.

GlobalData’s league tables are based on the real-time tracking of thousands of company websites, advisory firm websites and other reliable sources available on the secondary domain. A dedicated team of analysts monitors all these sources to gather in-depth details for each deal, including adviser names.

To ensure further robustness to the data, the company also seeks submissions of deals from leading advisers.
