There’s good news for job hunters. An international survey of employers found that more U.S. companies will be hiring in the next quarter than in any period since the end of 2008.
The survey by employment services firm Manpower showed that employers in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico have plans to hire in the third quarter, for the second quarter in a row.
More than one in four employers in the construction industry plan to hire workers, Reuters says. Fewer U.S. companies are reporting difficulty in filling positions this year, it added.
The Manpower survey also showed that U.S. employers are more optimistic than those in some other parts of the world. Overall, companies in 31 of the 42 countries surveyed have plans to increase staffing between July and September, and in 17 of them — including the U.S. — hiring plans were improved from the previous quarter.
However, plans for hiring declined in France, China and India, Reuters says.
The U.S. added 175,000 jobs in May after gaining 149,000 in April, according to the Labor Department. The unemployment rate is 7.6 percent.
USA Today reports that women are now regaining jobs at a faster rate than men in the U.S., after lagging behind from 2010 to 2012. The Associated Press notes that more people are now quitting their jobs, showing confidence they can find better work. The number who quit in April jumped 7.2 percent to 2.25 million, AP says.
