Jeff Bezos has taken another step in leaving Seattle—and making history in the making. The second richest man in the world and founder of Amazon reportedly just sold his waterfront Seattle property for $63 million. The sale sets a record as the priciest residential transaction in Washington's history, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal.
Located in Hunts Point, about eight miles from Seattle, the property consists of a 3.27-acre lot with 9,420 square feet of living space. The waterfront home sits on Lake Washington and was built in 2003. It was previously owned by Barney A. Ebsworth, a prolific art collector who passed away in 2018. As detailed in public records, Bezos bought the three-bedroom, four-bathroom home in April 2019 for $37.5 million. Just a few months prior, Bezos and his now ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, revealed that they were separating.

In November 2023, Bezos announced that he was moving to Florida with his fiancée, Lauren Sánchez. He wanted "to be close to my parents," as he wrote in an Instagram caption, who had recently moved to Miami. Plus, Bezos lived in Miami when he was younger, and Blue Origin, Bezos' space technology company, operations were increasingly moving to Cape Canaveral.
"Seattle has been my home since 1994 when I started Amazon out of my garage," he wrote in that Instagram caption. "I've lived in Seattle longer than I've lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here. As exciting as the move is, it's an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart."
Since that announcement, Bezos bought three estates in Indian Creek, Florida, a man-made gated island that's also known "Billionaire Bunker."

The Seattle mansion was designed by Jim Olson, an architect who named it "An American Place." "This understated house on the shore of Lake Washington defers both to its wooded site and to one of the nation's premier collections of modern American Art. The design weaves art and nature together, creating a comfortable place to live," Olson wrote on Olson Kundig, his design practice.
