Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors Limited announced last week it has signed an agreement to source integrated battery-electric powertrains from US engine manufacturer Cummins Inc for its next-generation F-series medium-duty trucks. The company is scheduled to launch the zero-emission trucks in the North American market in 2027.
Isuzu has been working with Cummins on the development of next-generation battery-electric powertrains for trucks since 2019, under the Isuzu Cummins Powertrain Partnership (ICPP). The truck-maker said the two partners have been testing BEV powertrains on prototype medium-duty trucks with a major fleet customer in North America since 2022, in preparation for the market launch.
Isuzu confirmed it has been collaborating with Accelera, Cummins’ alternative fuels powertrain division focused mainly on electrified powertrains, hydrogen fuel cells and related parts such as e-axles.
Isuzu is currently building a new truck plant in the US state of South Carolina, where the new battery-powered F-series trucks will be produced from 2027 using locally-sourced Accelera powertrains. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 50,000 units per year by 2030, with the company expecting a significant rise in demand for zero-emission commercial vehicles in the region over the next decade.
"Isuzu agrees to source BEV powertrains from Cummins" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand.
