iSpoon Sushi Grill & Buffet in Wisconsin Rapids reopens 2 weeks after a fire caused extensive damage

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – iSpoon Sushi Grill & Buffet, 4531 Eighth St. S., is reopening after a fire closed the restaurant two weeks ago.

The restaurant announced on its Facebook page Tuesday it would officially reopen at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

A caller reported flames coming through the restaurant’s roof Nov. 1, and at the time, the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department said the fire appeared to be cooking related and spread to the restaurant’s exhaust system. Flames were then visible from the outside of the restaurant. Wisconsin Rapids Deputy Fire Chief Justin Pluess said the restaurant’s fire suppression system in the kitchen’s hood activated during the fire and kept it under control, but it did not extinguish it.

Pluess told a Daily Tribune reporter the evening of the fire that he did not have a damage estimate, but the damage to the restaurant was extensive.

iSpoon had posted on its Facebook page that night that it would be closed until further notice.

iSpoon Sushi Grill & Buffet opened in November 2015, offering a menu including appetizers, soups and salads, along with chicken, beef, shrimp, vegetarian and sweet and sour dishes. The restaurant opened after the Hong Kong Buffet closed the previous August for an entire remodel.
