ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) has unveiled the Advanced in AI Audit (AAIA) certification, a pioneering credential for auditors to address the challenges and opportunities presented by AI in the field of audit.
This certification is designed for “experienced” auditors who are navigating an evolving technology and compliance landscape, with AI taking a central role.
The AAIA certification is built upon ISACA's expertise in IT audit and the “rigorous” standards of credentials like Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
It validates the expertise necessary for conducting AI-focused audits, addressing integration challenges, and improving audit processes with AI-driven insights.
Eligibility for the AAIA extends to those holding active CISA, CIA, and CPA certifications.
The certification encompasses key domains such as AI governance and risk, AI operations, and AI auditing tools and techniques.
ISACA chief content and publishing officer Shannon Donahue said: “ISACA is proud to have served the global audit community for more than 55 years through our audit and assurance standards, frameworks and certifications, and we are continuing to help the community evolve and thrive with the certifications and training they need in this new era of audits involving AI.”
“Through AAIA, auditors can demonstrate their expertise and trusted advisory skills in navigating AI-driven challenges while upholding the highest industry standards.”
To aid in exam preparation, ISACA offers the AAIA Review Manual, an Online Review Course, and a Questions, Answers, and Explanations Database (QAE), each providing a year of access for preparation.
A recent ISACA survey highlights the importance of AI skills for digital trust professionals, with 85% of respondents indicating the need to increase their AI knowledge within two years.
In response to this demand, ISACA has expanded its offerings with a range of AI courses and resources, including the upcoming Advanced in AI Security Management (AAISM) credential.
In April 2025, in a move to strengthen digital resilience against cyber threats, a coalition of industry bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CIIA) and ISACA, urged the UK government to fast-track audit reform legislation.
"ISACA introduces new Advanced in AI Audit Certification" was originally created and published by The Accountant, a GlobalData owned brand.
