Innergex Renewable Energy has commenced commercial operation of its Boswell Springs wind farm in the US state of Wyoming as of 31 December 2024.
The wind farm is now supplying clean electricity to the grid under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with PacifiCorp.
Innergex president and CEO Michel Letellier stated: “We are proud to see the Boswell Springs wind farm reach commercial operation and begin delivering renewable energy. This achievement reflects the hard work of our teams and partners who were committed to delivering this accretive project.”
Boswell Springs operates under a 30-year, 320MW busbar [a strip or bar of solid, conductive metal used to transport an electric current from one location to another] power purchase agreement with PacifiCorp, which serves over two million customers across six western US states.
The energy generated is transported to its interconnection point through the Last Mile Transmission Project line built by Innergex.
Innergex handled 100% of the development, financing, construction and start-up costs.
The company is also responsible for all operational, maintenance and decommissioning expenses.
The Last Mile Transmission Project is a 34.5-mile (55.5km) 230kV generation-tie line.
It features a mix of wooden H-frame and single steel pole transmission structures, 700 to 900 feet apart. Each structure reaches heights of 75 to 110 feet, with a maximum of 150 feet.
Located in Albany County, Wyoming, the Boswell Springs wind project is situated 14 miles (22.5km) northeast of Rock River and 20 miles (32.1km) east of Medicine Bow.
The site covers 21,500 acres of private land and comprises around 100 wind turbines, with an installed 330MW capacity.
The expected annual power generation capacity of Boswell Springs is 1,160 gigawatt hours (GWh).
