Increasing losses over year doesn't faze investors as stock swells 13% this past week

In This Article:

It is a pleasure to report that the Array Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARRY) is up 35% in the last quarter. But that doesn't change the reality of under-performance over the last twelve months. After all, the share price is down 21% in the last year, significantly under-performing the market.

While the last year has been tough for Array Technologies shareholders, this past week has shown signs of promise. So let's look at the longer term fundamentals and see if they've been the driver of the negative returns.

Array Technologies isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally expect to see good revenue growth. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one does expect good top-line growth.

In the last twelve months, Array Technologies increased its revenue by 33%. We think that is pretty nice growth. Unfortunately that wasn't good enough to stop the share price dropping 21%. This implies the market was expecting better growth. But if revenue keeps growing, then at a certain point the share price would likely follow.

It's probably worth noting we've seen significant insider buying in the last quarter, which we consider a positive. That said, we think earnings and revenue growth trends are even more important factors to consider. This free report showing analyst forecasts should help you form a view on Array Technologies

A Different Perspective

We doubt Array Technologies shareholders are happy with the loss of 21% over twelve months. That falls short of the market, which lost 16%. That's disappointing, but it's worth keeping in mind that the market-wide selling wouldn't have helped. It's great to see a nice little 35% rebound in the last three months. Let's just hope this isn't the widely-feared 'dead cat bounce' (which would indicate further declines to come). While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Take risks, for example - Array Technologies has 3 warning signs (and 1 which doesn't sit too well with us) we think you should know about.
