BAUMA 2025 is expected to have drawn over 600,000 visitors from over 200 countries. The event featured more than 3,600 exhibitors from 57 countries, showcasing innovations across 614,000 square meters of exhibition space.
Held every three years in Munich, Germany, BAUMA is the largest trade fair in the world for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles, and construction equipment.
This year's exhibition spotlighted the industry's shift towards decarbonisation, with heavy-duty truck manufacturers unveiling a range of electric, hydrogen, and renewable fuel-powered vehicles aimed at transforming construction logistics.
Heavy-Duty Trucks Lead the Electrification Charge
In the commercial vehicle space, BAUMA 2025 was a showcase of rapid innovation in electrification and alternative powertrains, especially for construction logistics.
MAN Truck & Bus showcased its latest electric and conventional vehicles, emphasizing application-specific solutions, with the new MAN eTGS 6x2-4 crane tipper chassis taking centre stage. With a modular design offering over a million configuration variants – including various wheelbases, cab versions, and battery combinations – the eTGS and eTGX series cater to diverse construction needs. The batteries boast a predicted service life of up to 1.6 million kilometers or 15 years, making them particularly suitable for the construction industry's long vehicle holding periods.
Volvo Trucks presented its approach to decarbonising construction transport, focusing on battery-electric powertrains, hydrogen fuel cells, and renewable fuels like biogas. At BAUMA, Volvo showcased the FH Electric 6x2 hook lift and the FMX Electric 6x4 three-way tipper, demonstrating the feasibility of electric transport in construction applications. All Volvo trucks are, in addition, certified for renewable fuels such as HVO and biodiesel B100, offering flexible solutions for customers seeking to decarbonise.
Scania's exhibit focused on vehicles and power solutions designed for the demanding conditions of the construction and mining industries. Highlights included the XT Battery Electric Tipper 6x4, and the V8 770 Heavy Haulage 8x4/4, one of the strongest powertrains on the market. Scania also presented a biomethane tipper tractor with an extended range of up to 750 km. The company’s modular approach combines internal combustion engines and electrification to develop solutions for demanding environments.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks introduced several models tailored for construction applications, including the all-electric eArocs 400 for urban construction transport. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks featured the versatile Unimog, the off-road-capable Zetros, and the eEconic, addressing specific construction challenges.
FUSO, another Daimler Truck brand, had a separate presence at the fair and showcased its Canter (ICE) and eCanter models suitable for various construction and landscaping tasks.
The overarching theme at BAUMA 2025 was the industry's commitment to alternative drives and decarbonisation.
Key Themes at BAUMA 2025:
Climate neutrality was at the heart of many exhibits beyond the HD truck space. Exhibitors showcased a range of low-emission alternative drives for mobile construction machinery, including electric solutions that eliminate exhaust fumes and noise for equipment such as vibratory plates, tamping rammers, and screeds. Construction material manufacturers also presented climate-friendly initiatives.
Digital transformation was another prominent theme. Smart attachments, remote diagnostics, and machine-to-machine communication demonstrated how data integration is optimizing construction workflows. Telematics, autonomous systems, and standardized interfaces are helping streamline operations and increase uptime across entire fleets.
Sustainable construction practices were emphasized, focusing on reducing the carbon footprint through the use of recycled materials, new concrete mixes, and substitute building materials. These innovations support the EU’s goals for a circular construction economy.
Mining exhibits focused on the need for secure and environmentally compatible raw material extraction. Companies like Epiroc and Paus presented digital platforms for tunneling and smart carrier vehicles equipped with real-time diagnostics and cloud connectivity. Liebherr unveiled the autonomous wheel loader and battery-electric mining trucks, pushing the frontier of automation and clean energy.
From zero-emissions trucks to smart construction tools and sustainable building methods, BAUMA 2025 focused on technological transformation, emphasising the industry’s continued drive towards a cleaner, smarter, and more connected future.
