This week's economic calendar includes a mix of events, several of which focus on housing.
The only data release today is the Chicago Federal Reserve's national activity index at 8:30 a.m. ET. The number seldom affects market sentiment but does provide clues on the broader economy.
Tomorrow is the busiest day of the week, featuring durable-goods orders, the Case-Shiller index of home prices, consumer confidence, and new-home sales. Homebuilder Lennar and pharmacy chain Walgreen also report quarterly results.
Wednesday's main items are earnings from General Mills and Monsanto. Weekly mortgage applications will also be reported.
Thursday brings initial jobless claims and pending home sales, plus Nike results after the closing bell.
The Chicago's purchasing managers index comes out on Friday. Research in Motion also releases its numbers that day.
