A Columbia County barbecue grill manufacturer has unveiled new and upgraded products – two of which the company claims are the first of their kind in the world.
The company, recteq, headquartered in Evans, makes wood-fired pellet grills that customers say provide a cleaner grilling experience and allow more precision when cooking.
The company recently premiered its SmokeStone 600, which the company said is the industry’s first –and currently only – wood-fired griddle. Other grill manufacturers offer griddle attachments or conversion kits, while recteq’s new WiFi-enabled, remote-controlled model is equipped with a permanent stainless-steel griddle surface instead of a conventional cooking grate.
Also, recteq introduced the DualFire 1200 as the world’s first and only all-wood-fired dual chamber grill. The grill’s two individually controlled cooking chambers allows for direct and indirect flame cooking.

Among its current product line, recteq’s Flagship 1100, Deck Boss 590 and Backyard Beast 1000 models have been upgraded with more durable legs, better wheels and a more intuitive controller.
"Wood-fired flavor from high-quality products is what our loyal recteq family loves, which is why we remain focused on innovation and developed the only wood-fired griddle and all-wood-fired dual chamber grill," recteq CEO Ralph Santana said in a prepared statement. "We are dedicated grillers helping grillers, and we want to make grilling easy with intuitive technology.”
Started by Ron Cundy and Ray Carnes in 2009 as Rec Tec, before rebranding as recteq, the company entered into an equity partnership with middle-market investment firm Norwest Equity Partners, based in Minneapolis.
An equity partnership is when an investor looking for a promising business provides capital to a company desiring to grow. The company receives resources to fund growth such as a physical expansion or the development of new products.
