Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), part of the Japanese automotive giant Honda Motor Company, has unveiled plans to expand its manufacturing plant in Vithalapur, Gujarat. HMSI is engaged in the production and sale of motorcycles.
Honda will add a fourth production line at the site, which is expected to be operational in 2027. The new line will be able to produce 650,000 units of 125cc-class motorcycles annually. Upon completion, it will be Honda's largest motorcycle assembly site globally with a cumulative capacity of 2.61 million units.
Honda will invest approximately $107.5m (Rs 9.2bn) in the additional production line and generate 1,800 new jobs.
HMSI has four production plants in India with a total annual production capacity of 6.14 million units. By 2027, it plans to increase its total capacity to 7 million units by further expanding its facilities.
Tsutsumu Otani, HMSI president and CEO, stated that Honda has been a keen investor in India as it is the world’s largest motorcycle market.
“With the additional investment in our fourth plant, Honda will further solidify its Indian motorcycle business,” he added.
