Honda global vehicle output drops 9% in Q1

Japanese automaker Honda Motor Company reported a 3.4% fall in global production to 329,664 units in March 2025, from 341,092 units in the same month last year, due mainly to a 4% decline in overseas production to 268,510 units - while volumes in Japan were just slightly lower at 61,154 units.

In the last financial year (FY2024), from April 2024 to March 2025, Honda’s global production fell by 11.5% to 3,644,066 units from 4,117,870 in the previous year, with output in Japan dropping by 2% to 692,593 units, while overseas sales fell by 13.5% to 2,951,473 units.

Production in Asia outside Japan dropped by 28% to 1,243,970 units in FY2024, with output in China plunging by over 34% to 768,288 units, while production in North America was slightly higher at 1,608,441 units despite a 4% drop in US output to 988,756 units.

In the first quarter of 2025 the company produced 883,362 vehicles globally, down by over 9% from 972,291 units a year earlier, with domestic output just slightly lower at 168,183 units from 168,849 previously, while overseas production fell by 11% to 715,179 from 804,122 units.

Vehicle production in Asia outside Japan plunged by 23% to 284,975 units in the first quarter of 2025 from 369,263 units, driven lower by a 25% plunge in Chinese output to 162,393 units from 216,812 units. Production in North America declined by 3% to 405,074 units in this period from 416,663 a year earlier, with US output falling by 6% to 242,695 units from 258,688 units.
