Holiday Mart spotlights local businesses

Nov. 5—Shopping for holiday gifts went from a daunting to simple task over the weekend thanks to the St. Joseph Holiday Food and Gift Mart.

Over 100 local business owners and vendors came to the holiday mart. Guests could shop for a variety of goods. The event featured several holiday decorations, clothing booths, snacks and food trucks and much more.

Organizers of the event believe the weekend to be a great opportunity for St. Joseph residents to better learn about their local shop owners and support them.

Cecilia Hummer, who will soon be taking over organizing the food and gift mart along with her husband, thought it was a great way to welcome the holiday spirit as well as support local commerce.

"People are coming here to shop from the local businesses instead of Amazon or those larger companies," Hummer said. "People are getting their business cards out, their faces out. It's a huge support to local businesses and we're hoping to bring even more people in next year."

The event also featured several booths with local organizations such as the children's theatre troupe, Creative Arts Productions, and the Friends of the Animal Shelter.
