High Point OKs Alro Steel annexation

HIGH POINT — The City Council on Monday unanimously granted the annexation request of an industrial metal products company that says it’s planning a $10 million expansion.

Alro Steel Corp. also obtained unanimous zoning approval to support its proposed plant expansion from its existing 43,000-square-foot facility at 7966 National Service Road, just south of Interstate 40, to 165,000 square feet.

The facility distributes metals and plastics to industries such as construction.

It’s in unincorporated Guilford County and is served by a well and septic system.

The company’s engineering consultant, Brent Cockrum, told the council that the expansion will require connecting to a municipal water and sewer system, which is why it requested annexation.

He estimated that the expansion will take two to three years to complete.

The rezoning changed the 10.8-acre site from light industrial to an employment center district with conditions that limit access to National Service Road only and require a landscape buffer between the property and I-40.
