Here's Why I Think Harvia Oyj (HEL:HARVIA) Might Deserve Your Attention Today

In This Article:

It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.

In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like Harvia Oyj (HEL:HARVIA), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

Harvia Oyj's Earnings Per Share Are Growing.

If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. It's no surprise, then, that I like to invest in companies with EPS growth. We can see that in the last three years Harvia Oyj grew its EPS by 8.3% per year. That growth rate is fairly good, assuming the company can keep it up.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. The good news is that Harvia Oyj is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 4.6 percentage points to 18%, over the last year. That's great to see, on both counts.

Are Harvia Oyj Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

I like company leaders to have some skin in the game, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. As a result, I'm encouraged by the fact that insiders own Harvia Oyj shares worth a considerable sum. Indeed, they hold €13m worth of its stock. That's a lot of money, and no small incentive to work hard. Those holdings account for over 7.5% of the company; visible skin in the game.

Is Harvia Oyj Worth Keeping An Eye On?

One positive for Harvia Oyj is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. That combination appeals to me, for one. So yes, I do think the stock is worth keeping an eye on.
