Here's Why Excelerate Energy (NYSE:EE) Has Caught The Eye Of Investors

In This Article:

For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it currently lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else investors will move on and the company will wither away.

So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Excelerate Energy (NYSE:EE). Now this is not to say that the company presents the best investment opportunity around, but profitability is a key component to success in business.

Trump has pledged to "unleash" American oil and gas and these 15 US stocks have developments that are poised to benefit.

How Fast Is Excelerate Energy Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

Even when EPS earnings per share (EPS) growth is unexceptional, company value can be created if this rate is sustained each year. So EPS growth can certainly encourage an investor to take note of a stock. Excelerate Energy's EPS has risen over the last 12 months, growing from US$1.16 to US$1.38. There's little doubt shareholders would be happy with that 19% gain.

It's often helpful to take a look at earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. We note that while EBIT margins have improved from 18% to 25%, the company has actually reported a fall in revenue by 27%. That's not a good look.

Are Excelerate Energy Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

As a general rule, it's worth considering how much the CEO is paid, since unreasonably high rates could be considered against the interests of shareholders. For companies with market capitalisations between US$2.0b and US$6.4b, like Excelerate Energy, the median CEO pay is around US$7.4m.

Excelerate Energy's CEO took home a total compensation package worth US$4.1m in the year leading up to December 2023. That comes in below the average for similar sized companies and seems pretty reasonable. CEO remuneration levels are not the most important metric for investors, but when the pay is modest, that does support enhanced alignment between the CEO and the ordinary shareholders. It can also be a sign of good governance, more generally.
