Here's what hip hop artist T-Rell Terry hopes to accomplish with Partee's Lounge in Topeka

A new spot for nightlife is arriving to the capital city.

Topeka native T-Rell Terry, hip hop and R&B artist, is opening a new lounge dubbed Partee's Lounge.

Partee's Lounge is named after the singer's former manager and lifelong friend Chris Partee, who died 2014 in a car accident on Interstate 35 in Carter County, Oklahoma.

Terry said he owns 25% of a club in Cincinnati, Ohio, so being able to fully own and operate a club on his own in Topeka is something he's prepared for. He said he's always had a foot in the entertainment business.

"I'll have full control of this one," Terry said. "It's back and forth, but I'm putting most of my attention here for a while. My goal is to get it really popular to where it runs by itself."

T-Rell Terry decided to lease the space for Partee's Lounge in the College Hill neighborhood because he wanted to bring something to Topeka similar to the lounge scene he enjoys in Atlanta.

What can you expect to find at Partee's Lounge?

Partee's Lounge, 1414 S.W. 16th St., will include seven VIP sections, bottle service, live music and more.

Genie's Hookah House was previous business at the location.

Outside of lounge hours, Terry plans to have different event nights, such as Sip N Paint, college student nights, a night dedicated to people with disabilities and more. He said one can expect to see Flavor Wagon food truck around — owner Tre'Jor Hopkins is Terry's cousin.

"Family is very important and especially the businesses around here. Topeka's family. I'm from here and I travel, I've been traveling for eight, nine years touring," Terry said. "I've seen every city multiple times, but I always come home. I love it here."

Terry said he chose to bring a lounge to the capital city because he felt it was something Topeka was missing. He has lived in Atlanta for over a year but often travels back to Topeka to visit.

The former Genie Hookah Lounge will soon become Partee's Lounge, 1414 S.W. 16th St., at the College Hill Apartment complex.

"The reason I wanted a lounge because I live in Atlanta," he said, "and when I come here to visit my kids, I'm bored after. I said, 'Well, I need somewhere to party, so let me put a lounge here. That's what I'm missing.' This is what I like when I go to Atlanta. In Atlanta, you'll always catch me in a lounge.

"You always catch me eating wings, smoking hookah, listening to music. It ain't about dancing. It's more about chilling."

When will Partee's Lounge open in Topeka?

Terry said the renovations will take six to eight weeks before the lounge is ready to open.

Work within the 1,250 square-foot building will include new interior paint, new VIP sections couches, a Partee memorial, new lighting and more.
