Hello to all You Venezuelans! Hola!

My number one source for LinkedIn followers is NYC, according to the LinkedIn analytics tool. That seems to make sense. Number three source for me is Washington DC, which also makes sense. I was in politics in NYC for many years and worked at companies in NYC, and now live and work in the DC area. But the # 2 area of followers for me on LinkedIn, more than 3,375 followers, is Venezuela.

Why is this? Hey Venezuelans, are you following because you are interested in my tech and privacy related posts? Why am I more influential in Venezuela than Washington DC, where I spend my days working with all sorts of policy types who are surely on LinkedIn? Is this a LinkedIn bug? I have never been to Venezuela. I have never written about the concerns I have with Venezuela's privacy law, although I hope to one day. I don't speak or post in Spanish ever.

So what's up? Maybe some spammer who follows me from multiple fake accounts has them all listed as originating in Venezuela. Anyway, unless many Venezuelans speak up after reading this post, I am assuming the tool is not accurate, or there is some glitch. Or maybe the LinkedIn Influencer program rolled out first in Venezuela, so Venezuelans are over represented. Do any other LinkedIn Influencers have giant Venezuelan numbers?

If I am wrong, and I am some kind of very minor internet LinkedIn celebrity in Venezuela, well how about that. I am honored. Nice to meet you all. Mucho Gusto!
