Dutch brewing major Heineken has secured a minority stake in UK-based functional drinks brand G Spot.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Rajeev Sathyesh, marketing director for Heineken's UK arm, said: “This is an exciting investment and comes as part of our commitment to expand beyond our well-established beer and cider portfolio.

"The functional drinks category is expanding, offering consumers new choices, and we view G Spot as one of the most exciting brands in this space.”

G Spot was set up by American actor Gillian Anderson last year. The business makes low-calorie, sugar-free adaptogen and nootropics-fueled drinks.

The range features four SKUs: Arouse, Lift, Protect and Soothe, all made with natural ingredients such as the butterfly pea flower, amino acid theanine and reishi mushroom.

Heineken's investment is expected to help scale distribution and marketing of the functional drinks range across the UK.

The drinks are currently sold online in the country through G Spot's website, as well as selected retailers, including Fortnum & Mason's, Harvey Nichols and WH Smith travel retail.

G Spot is also said to be looking to expand worldwide, having entered the US market in October.

Just Drinks has asked Heineken and G Spot which other international markets it plans to enter.

“I am thrilled to be partnering with Heineken, which allows us to take the next step in growing G Spot as a bold alternative to traditional wellness brands," Anderson said of the investment.

“We’re excited to continue empowering people, especially women, with
drinks that prioritise natural ingredients, vegan formulas, and functional benefits—all while redefining what it means to live well.”

The Amstel brewer has made a number of strategic moves into areas outside of beer and cider in the past 12 months.

In May, Heineken acquired a minority stake in the Dutch ready-to-drink seltzer brand Stëlz. More recently in September, it also purchased a "significant" minority stake in UK hard seltzer label Served.

"Heineken buys stake in Gillian Anderson’s G Spot functional drinks" was originally created and published by Just Drinks, a GlobalData owned brand.
