If you’re craving Starbucks’ pumpkin spice latte – or maybe want to try the new toasted graham latte – but don’t have the patience (or time) to wait in line, Starbucks’ Mobile Order & Pay app could save the day.
The Seattle-based coffee chain announced that the app, which has been tested in select U.S. cities, is now available at more than 7,400 company-owned stores across the nation.
The Mobile Order & Pay app is available on both iOS and Android devices. It lets you place your coffee order on your phone (or other mobile device) and pick it up at store without waiting in line. The app also allows you to locate Starbucks stores, prepay for your beverage and get an estimated wait time. Orders can be picked up from a barista in the bar area.
A nationwide launch for the app was originally planned for the end of the year, but Starbucks said it moved up the rollout based on the app’s success.
“Bringing Mobile Order & Pay to our customers is about meeting their needs of convenience and customization at any time of the day,” Adam Brotman, Starbucks chief digital officer, said in a statement.
Mobile ordering brings Starbucks one step closer to delivery service, according to USA Today, which reported that the coffee giant is planning to test a delivery option in Seattle and New York City later this year. USA Today reported:
In July, Starbucks also announced a multiyear deal with the San Francisco-based rideshare service Lyft in which riders can earn reward points, or “stars,” in Starbucks’ loyalty program for fare purchases with Lyft. The partnership with Lyft could eventually evolve into one where drivers for the rideshare service deliver Starbucks food and beverages, (Starbucks CEO Howard) Schultz said.
