GTCC to help train battery workers

Jan. 23—GUILFORD COUNTY — Guilford Technical Community College and Carolina Battery Institute have signed an affiliation agreement to establish a workforce education program.

Leaders from GTCC and CBI will work together in the coming weeks to establish the parameters of the program and the workforce development opportunities for those in the Triad, GTCC President Anthony Clarke said.

"It is a great opportunity for us to impact workforce development within the electric battery manufacturing industry, and we are proud to partner with CBI to make amazing happen," he said.

CBI is an industry-driven nonprofit based in far northern High Point with a mission to provide education, hands-on-training and workforce development to support future education efforts and workforce training for disadvantaged and underserved communities. It was founded last year by Soelect, an electric battery component manufacturer.

Jin Ch, founder of CBI and the CEO of Soelect, said, "Supporting individuals and communities through a clean energy and advanced battery manufacturing workforce development will ... help ensure Greensboro and the Triad is a global center of excellence for electric vehicle and battery technology."
