AUSTIN, TX / ACCESSWIRE / December 17, 2015 / Yesterday Green Party of Texas announced its nomination and submission of candidate paperwork to elections office for Vanessa S. Tijerina as the party's official candidate for 2016 U.S. Representative seat at Texas' 15th congressional district, which is currently held by Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (D), who is confirmed to not be running for re-election after serving as a U.S. Representative since 1997.
Tijerina (37), a Hispanic-American who is a native of Raymondville, Texas working as a registered nurse since 1999, and has spent the past decade volunteering for minority, veteran, and women rights activities in Texas with the anticipation to bring awareness to medicinal marijuana, immigration laws, domestic violence, education, human trafficking, and job creation for minorities and military families in Texas. Her past works as a public servant and political activist have been mentioned in the local news. Her more recent interaction with Capitol Hill has placed her into delegations as an observer at a recent White House cyber-conference in efforts to combat discrimination against world religions.
On Monday afternoon congressional lobbyist and election campaign guru Cary Peterson of Robert Peterson and Fields Associates confirmed that his firm was representing 'Tijerina for Greener Texas' campaign committee, which was filed at Federal Elections Commission in Washington, D.C. this morning. Peterson comments that 'her participation in the 2016 congressional election was much needed and will be a game changer for the State of Texas; nonetheless he's excited to see how the campaign progresses.'
