Got an Amazon package at the Jersey Shore? See inside where it probably came from

TINTON FALLS - From Ocean Township and Asbury Park to Lakewood and down to Long Beach Island and Little Egg Harbor, if you ordered a package on Amazon, it's likely coming from the distribution center identified as DNJ4.

The Amazon Delivery Station, built on a former golf center on Jumping Brook Road, opened in September, and now handles tens of thousands of packages a day. It's the so-called last mile in Amazon's fulfillment and delivery network.

The station's role was transferred from Amazon's Delivery Station set up in the nearby former Sears store at Seaview Square shopping center in Ocean Township. All the work is now done in Tinton Falls.

"We're constantly evaluating our logistics network to make sure that we are able to deliver for our customers, for our employees and make sure that we have the best systems in place possible," Amazon spokesperson Sam Fisher said.

How it all works

Packages arrive as early as 10 p.m. the night before until about 8 a.m. With the aid of scanning equipment and automated conveyors, they're sorted by workers into large bags. From there, the bags are loaded onto carts to be loaded into a delivery van scheduled to leave at a specific time. Workers use handheld scanners to track everything.
