The Community Foundation of Sarasota County has awarded a Strategic Partnership Grant of $35,000 to Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe.
The funds are to be allocated as follows: $15,000 for Stage of Discovery; $10,000 for the fall gala, “Groovin’ on the Soul Train”; $5,000 for the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; and $5,000 for the spring fundraiser, the April Fools Fête.
Stage of Discovery, first offered during the summer of 2016, is a musical theater program offered at no cost to the participants. The camp provides weeks of intensive training in singing, acting, dancing and improvisation, culminating in a full-scale musical production.
The Community Foundation-supported events take place on the following dates:
“Groovin’ on the Soul Train,” Nov. 11, 2022; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: Celebrating His Legacy, Jan. 16, 2023; and April Fools Fête, April 3, 2023. More information about the Stage of Discovery summer program will be announced next year.
The $35,000 grant was made possible thanks to the Thomas and Lola Seligman Fund, the Frances Wormser Founders Fund, the Leslie and Margaret Weller Fund, and the Allen Wirtz Nobbe and Jo Bowen Nobbe Fund of the Community Foundation.

Canandaigua National Trust Company of Florida is supporting Compeer Sarasota with a $2,500 donation in 2022.
Compeer is a mental health organization routinely recognized as a national model. With its origins in Rochester, New York, Compeer has grown to include 51 affiliate offices in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Australia.
Compeer works to embrace individuals and their families living with mental health challenges. Volunteers become friends, mentors and role models who help raise self-esteem, increase social and communications skills and encourage independence.
CNTF, an affiliate of Canandaigua National Corp., provides a suite of services tailored to its customers’ wealth management needs, including trusts, estates, investment management accounts, and IRAs.

Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee has received support from many organizations in the community in its effort to assist individuals in living independently by providing nutrition and caring, supportive services.
Those organizations include First Watch, the Wilson-Wood Foundation and Ian Black Real Estate.
First Watch managers from around the country gathered for training and team building called F.A.R.M. (First Watch Academy for Restaurant Managers). As part of their event, the Academy organizers were looking for an opportunity to provide training while also giving back so their managers could learn about helping the community.
