The Giant Company announced Tuesday the appointment of John MacDonald as its new vice president of marketing, effective immediately.

He brings more than 30 years of retail and healthcare experience to the position.

MacDonald first joined Giant in 2012 as director of marketing and external communications and since then has held positions at other Ahold Delhaize-owned banners and units.

Between his marketing leadership roles at Giant, MacDonald held various positions with Ahold Financial Services, was vice president and chief marketing officer of Giant Food and was chief marketing officer of FreshDirect, according to his LinkedIn profile

In January, MacDonald returned to The Giant Company from FreshDirect, taking on the role of vice president of special projects.

In his new role, MacDonald will report directly to Giant’s president, John Ruane, who said in a statement that MacDonald’s “extensive knowledge of both our business and customers … will elevate The Giant Company brand and deepen the relationships we have with our loyal customers.”

Ruane took over as president of the grocery company in the summer of 2023 after serving as interim president since August 2022 when Nicholas Bertram left the top role.
