Germany plans gas replacement reserve with coal in power generation sector - sources

BERLIN, May 24 (Reuters) - Germany, which is trying to cuts its dependence on Russian fossil fuels due to the invasion of Ukraine, plans to set up a gas replacement reserve with coal in the power generation sector to run until March 31, 2024, economy ministry sources said.

The proposals, drawn up by the ministry, are part of efforts by the government to continue increasing precautions in case a possible halt to gas supplies by Russia leads to a gas shortage or such a situation threatens, the sources said.
