Geely Auto Group, a subsidiary of Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, has forayed into the Indonesian market with the pre-sale of its electric SUV, the Geely EX5.
The Geely EX5 features the short blade battery, Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA) architecture, CTB technology, and an 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive.
It also offers an Flyme Auto-powered advanced cockpit and a multilingual voice assistant.
Equipped with ADAS Level 2, the Geely EX5 includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assistance.
The company is also planning to partner with PT Handal Indonesia Motor to establish production facilities in Indonesia’s industrial hub Bekasi.
This collaboration is aimed at strengthening Geely's presence in right-hand drive markets.
Geely Auto Indonesia CEO Victor Gao said: “The partnership with Handal underscores our long-term commitment to Indonesia.
“We share a vision of driving innovation and advancing the local automotive sector. By combining our strengths in technology and manufacturing, we aim to set new benchmarks for Indonesia's automotive industry.”
To increase its footprint in the Indonesia’s important right-hand drive market, Geely Auto has teamed up with six local dealers since launching its Indonesian subsidiary in November 2024.
Within three years, the company aims to establish a network of 100 sales and service outlets across Indonesia.
The partnership with PT Handal Indonesia Motor is central to the development of the Bekasi Phase II manufacturing facility, which is expected to be completed in Q2 2025.
The plant is planned to start production of the Geely EX5 in Q3 of this year, adhering to Indonesian local production standards.
Geely's seventh overseas manufacturing facility, the Bekasi plant will comprise Geely's advanced battery technology and assembly processes.
The plant's three-year roadmap includes an array of vehicles, from SUVs to MPVs, with a powertrains ranging from pure electric to plug-in hybrid and conventional options, Geely Auto said.
In 2024, Geely Auto reported “record-breaking” sales with 2.17 million units sold worldwide. The firm’s international sales increased by 53% year-on-year, and new energy vehicle sales jumped by 92%.
Recently, Geely launched new vehicle assembly plant in Egypt as part of its expansion into markets in the Middle East and Africa.
