FX's 'American Crime Story' Wraps Acclaimed First Season With Ratings Boost

FX (Twenty-First Century Fox Inc (NASDAQ: FOXA)) dismissed court Tuesday night for the first season of "American Crime Story" and saw its highest rated episode in weeks.

The 10-week event from uber-producer Ryan Murphy that recounted the O.J. Simpson "trial of the century" ended with 3.23 million viewers and a 1.3 rating among the 18–49 demo. That's up from last week's series low and was the limited series' most watched installment since its third week's episode.

"American Crime Story" made an immediate impact when it debuted in February with 5.1 million viewers and a 2.0 demo rating. Three days later, the time-shifted numbers pushed those already high figures even higher, as totals climbed to 8.3 million viewers and a 3.3 demo. The result made it the largest ever premiere audience for a FX series.

Regardless of the up and down live ratings in subsequent weeks, the series has continued to see solid +3 boosts and proven to be a big hit for the network. Critics and viewers are unanimous in their praise and that will factor in heavily as Emmy season approaches this summer.

The next season of the series will take a different route and explore New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It is expected to air next winter.
