CLEVELAND — Care about jobs growth? Don't vote for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton , Continental Resources CEO Harold Hamm said Wednesday night.
"Hillary Clinton would eliminate fossil fuel development in America, she would kill jobs, drive up gasoline prices and increase oil imports from our enemies," Hamm said at the Republican National Convention.
Regarding GOP standard bearer Donald Trump , Hamm said: "President Trump will release America's pent-up energy potential, get rid of foreign oil, trash punitive regulations, create millions of jobs, and develop our most strategic geopolitical weapon: crude oil."
Crude oil has fallen sharply over the past year, with U.S. crude (New York Mercantile Exchange: @CL.1) plunging 17 percent.
The oil magnate endorsed Trump back in April, citing his ability to "make tough decisions." Hamm was Mitt Romney's energy advisor in 2012. Before endorsing Trump, however, Hamm had donated money to Florida Sen. Marco Rubio's presidential bid .
On Monday, Hamm attributed the stock market's recent run into record highs to Trump getting closer to the U.S. presidency.
The Dow Jones industrial average (Dow Jones Global Indexes: .DJI) and the benchmark S&P 500 (INDEX: .SPX) set fresh intraday highs Wednesday.
Reuters reported Wednesday night that Trump is considering Hamm for U.S. energy secretary if he's elected president.
