Sydney, Australia (Photo: Shutterstock)[/caption] Australian firm Clayton Utz has recruited real estate partner Andrew Steele, the former co-head of Norton Rose Fulbright’s Sydney office. Steele left Norton Rose Fulbright six months after the firm's merger with legacy Australian firm Henry Davis York, where he had been a partner since 2007. Before the merger, he was co-head of Henry Davis' real estate practice and advised on transactional matters. In 2016, he represented local property developer Celestino on the acquisition and development of a $2.9 billion housing project in Melbourne. In 2015, he also advised warehouse operator Goodman Group on a $186 million sale of an Australian distribution center to Singaporean developer Mapletree Investments. Steele joined Henry Davis in 2004 from Herbert Smith Freehills' legacy firm, where he had been an associate. Following Henry Davis' merger into Norton Rose Fulbright, Steele co-led the combined firm's Sydney office with construction partner Emanuel Confos. He is the latest legacy Henry Davis partner to depart Norton Rose Fulbright. In February, the Australian Financial Review reported that 21 former Henry Davis partners left either leading up to or after the combination with Norton Rose Fulbright. Clayton Utz has 171 partners across six offices in Australia.
