Fonterra has announced the expansion of its foodservice offerings in China with the introduction of a new mid-tier UHT [ultra-high-temperature-treated] cream tailored for bakeries.
Anchor Easy Bakery cream was unveiled at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, which took place from 5 to 10 November 2024.
For Fonterra, the foodservice channel is a high-value sector, integral to the cooperative's strategy and featuring products such as UHT cream, cream cheese and mozzarella.
Anchor Easy Bakery cream is made with 100% New Zealand dairy milk and targets the rapidly expanding mid-tier segment of China's UHT cream market.
In China, the demand for UHT cream continues to rise due to factors such as the increasing middle-class population, urbanisation and heightened awareness of the nutritional benefits of dairy products.
The Fonterra cooperative operates six application centres across the country, enabling close collaboration with technical experts and customers for creating new product applications jointly using its dairy offering.
Fonterra Greater China CEO Teh-han Chow said: "We have a strong foodservice business in China, and tapping into new markets with products like this is key to maintaining our leadership position in this competitive market and expanding our footprint into new cities.
“CIIE is a great platform for Fonterra to showcase our high-quality dairy products and demonstrate our strategic focuses on sustainability, nutrition health and locally driven innovation.”
The company highlighted its commitment to sustainability at CIIE 2024 by presenting the Carbon Footprinter tool, designed to assist customers in calculating the emissions profile of their products.
