The fire began at dawn Thursday at the Rondonópolis terminal owned by Rumo SA in the country’s largest grains producing state of Mato Grosso. It started in the conveyor belts responsible for transporting soybean meal and was controlled after three hours, according to the local firefighters group.
The operations at the terminal “are continuing normally on Thursday,” Rumo said in a statement, adding that there were no victims and it will investigate the cause of the fire. It declined to comment on possible losses.
This is the time for harvesting soybeans in Mato Grosso, although the region has faced delayed planting and persistent rains that have made it difficult for machines to enter the fields. Rumo’s Rondonópolis terminal receives up to 2,000 trucks a day, according to The Hightower Report.
